Types of Carriers using Insight
Truckload Carriers |
ABECAS Insight is used by carriers and brokers who primarily handle loads at the truckload level. It assists dispatchers in tracking the location of loads, drivers, trailers, containers, and trucks. It allows loads to be quickly and easily matched with equipment and drivers, and miles and trip pay figured. On-board computers allow automatic updating of trip records. It tracks driver/contractor/carrier payables and makes it easy to pay them on time, for the right loads, and with the correct information. This allows them to know exactly what they are being paid for and what, if any, deductions/advances have been deducted from their pay. EDI allows load information to be exchanged electronically with trading partners. And web access gives customers immediate access to load information. |
Inter-modal carriers |
ABECAS Insight is used by carriers and brokers who primarily handle containers. It assists dispatchers manage the movement and location of containers . and track free days for demurrage and detention purposes. Orders can be easily replicated to handle the required number of containers. Using trip pay, it allows each leg to be easily set up as a payable. In other regards, they operate similarly to truckload carriers. |
Bulk and Aggregate Haulers |
ABECAS Insight is used by carriers and brokers who primarily handle bulk or aggregate products. Such loads are often repetitive and can be easily set up and replicated. Specialized equipment requires close monitoring. Billing often has special rules related to type of equipment, product, and day of the week. The product is often taxable and is generally based on a weight tag. In other regards, they operate similarly to truckload carriers. |
Freight Brokers |
ABECAS Insight is used by freight brokers who contract with carriers to haul their freight. This requires extensive carrier information, including lanes, rates and insurance coverage. Often, carrier agreements and confirmation documents are exchanged and need to be tracked. Carrier pay is often pre-set as fixed amounts and may require an advance. In many ways, they operate similarly to asset based carriers. |
Specialized Haulers |
ABECAS Insight is used by carriers and brokers who primarily handle specialized loads, including over-size and over-weight loads. The right equipment, labor, escorts, and rigging equipment need to be available and paid accordingly. Often confirmation documents are exchanged and need to be tracked. Routes need to be carefully planned. In other regards, they are similar to truckload carriers. |
Freight Forwarders |
ABECAS Insight is used by freight forwarders who primarily handle either the pick up or delivery but rely on other carriers for the remainder, including the line haul. They often handle a large volume of small shipments and are concerned with optimally consolidating the freight. This freight often has tight schedules that has to be managed. Collections and carrier payments are often of great concern. In other regards, they are similar to LTL carriers. |
LTL Carriers |
ABECAS Insight is used by carriers and brokers who primarily handle Less than-Truck-Load shipments. This requires tracking shipments through multiple legs, often through multiple terminals. Load building, routing and stop sequencing are critical. Often other carriers are involved and interline service fees need to be generated and settled. Performance is generally critical and is measured as a statistic. Large numbers of bills are generally produced and credit and collections are issues. Most billing is based on a rate table with appropriate discounting. Equipment tracking and usage is often an issue. Drivers are often paid by different methods, depending on type of route and services performed. Accounting for revenue and expense by terminal is always a challenge. |
Tank Operators |
ABECAS Insight is used by carriers and brokers who primarily handle products shipped in tanks, such as food products, beverages and petroleum. This requires very special attention to the history of each tank compartment and concern about washing procedures. Tank capacities tend to raise special dispatching concerns. Since shippers and consignees able to handle these products are limited, rates tend to be contract based. Driver pay is often more complex because of the number of loads and stops per trip. |
Delivery Services |
ABECAS Insight is used by delivery services who handle the pick up and delivery of small packages, generally locally. Scheduling these pick ups and deliveries with the available equipment is often a challenge and requires quick and easy trip building capabilities for the dispatcher. Tracking equipment and drivers is always a challenge because of limited time windows. In many regards, they are similar to LTL carriers. |
Moving Companies |
ABECAS Insight is used by moving companies who primarily handle personal and business moves. Tracking each piece individually is generally required with billing based on volume, distance and services performed. Often, the items have to be stored temporarily (or longer) with additional billing being required. Depending on distance, often other carriers are used for part or all of the hauling and delivery services. In other ways, they are similar to other carriers. | |
